Shan obtained his B.Eng. in Information Engineering (Telecommunication) from Guangdong University of Technology, China. He then studied at the University of Liverpool where he earned his M.Sc. with distinction in Intelligence Engineering and Ph.D in Electrical Engineering and Electronics. He left Liverpool and joined Cercia in September 2006, as a research associate.
Shan was awared a Leverhulme Early Career Fellowship which started on 1st October 2007.
In his leisure time, he enjoys walking, swimming, reading and travelling.
Shan's current research interests include swarm intelligence, evolutionary computation, artificial neural networks, animal behaviour, artificial life, data mining and its applications to proteomics and metabolomics.
