Intelligent Energy Monitoring - September 20th 2007

CERCIA is hosting a workshop on 'Intelligent Energy Monitoring' to launch the ICT Innovation club at the University of Birmingham. The 'Intelligent ICT solutions' innovation club at the University of Birmingham is established in association with AWM ICT cluster to provide a forum for end users, businesses and academic experts to discuss challenges and exchange ideas with a view to develop innovative solutions enabling economic gain.

A recent UK government energy white paper outlined the importance of advanced metering systems in improving energy efficiency by providing an understanding of energy consumption through smart metering. However, it is not clear how the large amount of data captured from these meters is actually going to be used. For example, a site like the University of Birmingham will have significantly more than 500 streams of data, each of which should be checked at least daily in order to ensure problems are spotted early. The aim of this event is to address these issues and the challenges faced by both customers and service providers of smart metering and explore potential future directions for Computational Intelligence techniques in this area.

A flyer about the day is available.
