Framework Programme Six (FP6) is the European Union's programme of support for research and development. It runs from 2002 to 2006 and has a budget of ?17.5 billion. Beta Technology Ltd are sponsored by Advantage West Midlands to give free and confidential advice to regional organisations regarding FP6. The West Midlands Preparatory Research Award (WMPRA) is also available to SMEs located in the West Midlands region to cover part of the costs of preparing a complete FP6 proposal. The maximum contribution awarded is 75% of the project costs. The remaining 25% contribution from the SME can be as an in-kind contribution.

Key criteria

Applicants must:
  • Be a small and medium sized enterprise (SME).
  • Be located in the West Midlands region.
  • Submit an eligible proposal under the Sixth Framework Programme.
Activities related to the preparation of a proposal to the Sixth Framework Programme include:
  • Searching for partners.
  • Assessing the feasibility of the proposed research.
  • Verifying novelty.
  • Analysing the market.
  • Planning the project.
