CERCIA fellow wins award to work on epilepsy detection

Dr X. Li (CERCIA research fellow) has won a Development Award under the Wellcome Trust’s Value in People Awards Scheme.

The award will enable Dr. X. Li to apply computational intelligence techniques to EEG signal analysis. He will be working with Prof. John Jefferys at the Medical School and Prof. Xin Yao, the Director of CERCIA.

Epilepsy is a common neurological disorder with 4-5% of the population suffering at some time in their life throughout the world. In this study, we will analyze the EEG characteristics of epilepsy by using signal processing and computational intelligence; the final aim is to build an intelligent analysis system of EEG signals, in particular an automatic detection of preictal state.
