Title: Evolutionary System Design
Speaker: Prof. Dr. Bernhard Sendhoff
Chief Technology Officer, Honda Research Institute Europe
Honorary Professor, University of Birmingham
Abstract:
In this talk, I will first outline the "system" aspect of the evolutionary design process which is briefly described thereafter. The representation as a major part of this process will be the central focus of the presentation and will be described in the context of shape and structure optimization. In particular, the classes of "adaptive" representations and "deformation based" representations will be highlighted. After outlining some of our technological applications in the area of evolutionary shape design, I will focus on our more biologically oriented research activities.
Modelling gene regulatory networks for evolutionary system growth and major transitions in the evolution of early nervous systems highlight the view of evolutionary system design from a more biological perspective.
