23-08-2007 - Advanced metering systems help in improving energy efficiency by providing an understanding of energy consumption through smart metering. However, it is not clear how the large amount of data captured from these meters is actually going to be used. For example, a site like the University of Birmingham will have significantly more than 500 streams of data, each of which should be checked at least daily in order to ensure problems are spotted early. The aim of this event is to address these issues and the challenges faced by both customers and service providers of smart metering, and explore potential future directions for applying computational intelligence techniques in this area
